MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues and joints of the body. The soft tissues include muscle, skin, tendons and associated fascia, ligaments and joint capsules.

Massage therapy is fast-growing profession, and public interest has grown. Many insurance companies have started to recognize the benefits of skilled practitioners. Consumer interest coupled with insurance company funding has led to more practicing therapists and more accreditation programs.

WHAT IS A REGISTER MASSAGE THERAPIST (RMT)
Massage therapy is a regulated health profession. Massage therapists have completed many hours of education at accredited schools and have extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, assessment, bodywork techniques, and pathology to know when massage is or is not suitable.

RELAXATION MASSAGE
A relaxation massage is exactly what the name implies: a massage strictly for the purposes of rest and relaxation. This massage technique is not designed for therapeutic effects or for dealing with chronic pain or discomfort.

During a session, the patient will remove most of their clothing and lie on a massage table, usually with some sort of thin sheet draped over the body. Usually a relaxation massage can be modified and tailored to your specific desires. The massage takes place in a quiet, comforting environment, with your choice of any music or candlelight in the background.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
When you think of therapeutic massage - also called massotherapy - It encompasses a broad array of approaches and philosophies - and bonus, most of them don’t even hurt.  Swedish massage is an example of this technique.  This massage technique is characterized by its firm, yet calming pressure that improves blood circulation, eases muscle tension, and improves flexibility.  It employs a series of long, gliding strokes, kneading of the muscles, and vibrational taps that are so common when one thinks of massage.  It will also create friction and do whats called hacking or tapping across a clients back and shoulders to promote the release of tension. Five basic strokes gliding, kneading, vibrations, friction and hacking are all applied in the direction of the heart in order to encourage blood circulation and the disposal of bodily waste.

SPORTS MASSAGE
Perhaps the greatest benefit of a sports massage is that it consists of specific components designed to cut down on sports-related injuries. It specifically alleviates muscle tension and inflammation post-event, and provides a warm-up to loosen muscles for amateur and professional athletes pre-event.
